Otūmoetai United have won the 2022 WaiBOP W-League and did so in style with a resounding 10-1 triumph over Waikato Unicol at Jansen Park.

The league's top-scorer Brea Venimore and Phoebe Hawes both bagged a hat-trick while Lilly Muspratt, on her return from representing New Zealand in futsal at the 2022 FISU World University Championships in Portugal, scored a brace to secure the resounding victory.

With three games remaining in the season United are 11 points clear of nearest rivals Lakes FC, making their lead at the top of the table unassailable.

The team will have a chance to celebrate their title win at home this upcoming weekend, when they face Claudelands Rovers at Fergusson Park.

The club's other W-League side, Otūmoetai FC, also enjoyed an impressive weekend, holding second-place Lakes to a 2-2 draw.

Otūmoetai's men's first-team had to overcome some major obstacles to win their home tie with Ngongotaha in the WaiBOP Premiership this weekend.

They played the final 20 minutes with just nine men after both Tom Addison and Newton Rewi saw red.

However, Nathan Monne's own goal just before half-time earned them a 1-0 win. The result keeps them third, within touching distance of Taupo in second.

Pāpāmoa FC's Premiership clash with Hamilton Wanderers was postponed.

There were a couple of all-Bay clashes in the WaiBOP Championship over the weekend, including one with serious title connotations.

Otūmoetai defeated Te Puke United 1-0 courtesy of Jack Finn's second-half goal.

The result moved Oats above Waikato Unicol Reserves into second in the table, following Unicol's loss to Cambridge FC - who have moved into top spot, level on 34 points with Oats.

Tauranga City beat Pāpāmoa U19s 4-0 with substitute Zachary Bell scoring twice to ensure they remain firmly in title contention, six points behind the leaders with two games in hand.

It was a less positive weekend for Tauranga City's first-team as they slipped to fourth in the NRFL Men's Division 1 following a 3-0 defeat at Mount Albert Ponsonby.

Tauranga City's women's team came close to picking up points for just the third time this season in the NRFL Women's Premier League, as they lost narrowly to their Kate Sheppard Cup conquerors Auckland United. Despite Abi Witney-Collins's first-half goal, City went down 2-1 at Links Avenue.
