State Highway 25 slip now cleared

Update, 5.37pm: An earlier slip on State Highway 25 between Coromandel and Whitianga has now been cleared.

The slip occurred west of Te Rerenga, and has now been cleared however a 30 km per hour temporary speed restriction remains in place overnight.

All lanes are now open near Peebles Lane on SH25 following an earlier slip about 4 km east of Matarangi.

Motorists are advised to take care and expect delays.

Earlier 8.36am: Motorists travelling in the Coromandel area are being urged to drive to the conditions today.

The MetService has issued a severe weather watch for the region.

Heavy rain is forecast for the seven hours from 8am today.

Meanwhile, Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency is reporting a slip in State Highway 25.

According to the roading agency, a slip is blocking one lane of the highway, 6km west of Te Rerenga.

"Delay your journey or allow extra time for stop/go management."

People are being advised to consider using SH25/25A via Kopu/Hikuai.
