Fire brigade defibrillator returned

UPDATED 11.10PM: A defibrillator that has fallen off a fire truck in Pāpāmoa has been returned.

Earlier tonight, the Pāpāmoa Volunteer Fire Brigade has put out a plea for the return of the equipment after it fell out when one of the truck's lockers came open at the Domain Road roundabout. See more below.

A person had found it and not realising it had come off the brigade truck took it to Countdown at Papamoa Plaza.

After reading the plea from the brigade, he made contact to let them know it was at the plaza.

EARLIER:

Pāpāmoa Volunteer Fire Brigade are asking the public for help to return essential life saving equipment.

"We had a medical call tonight. While returning to station one of our lockers came open and our defibrillator fell out at the Domain Road roundabout," says a brigade spokesperson.

"We realised almost immediately, however someone had already picked it up."

The Pāpāmoa Volunteer Fire Brigade which has its station at 50 Parton Road, Pāpāmoa has posted a public plea for the return of the equipment on their Facebook page.

"If you have picked up this life saving piece of equipment, please contact us asap."

I hope the finder does the right thing and hands it in. It's a life saving device that just might be needed for your family. Do we need to look at fund-raising for a new one . . .

I think this is why firefighters were protesting the last few weeks.... I hear they were after better fire trucks that don't break down...or in this case have "lockers" open up. Imagine if someone had a heart attack when they didn't have this life saving device. I remember thinking the same thing when the poor firemen were striking on the street corners.
