Masonic Park public toilets to be relocated

The public toilet block at Masonic Park on Willow Street in the City Centre is being removed.

They are being relocated to Coronation Park in Mount Maunganui to replace the toilet block that was destroyed by fire in January 2022.

With cruise ships due to return to Tauranga in October, Tauranga City Council is keen to ensure there are public toilets available at Coronation Park near Salisbury Wharf where cruise ship passengers disembark, says a Tauranga City Council spokesperson.

"The toilet block is expected to be operational at Coronation Park from mid-October.

"The toilets on Willow Street will no longer be available from today, with signs in place redirecting people to alternative public toilet facilities on The Strand and in the Spring Street parking building, which can be accessed off Grey Street."

All of the alternative toilet facilities include accessible toilets.

Work to remove the Masonic Park toilet block will also require the Masonic Park carpark to be closed temporarily from Monday, September 12, to Thursday, September 22.

The carpark includes three mobility parking spaces.

Please see the mobility access map for alternative mobility parking options.

For more information about parking options in the City Centre visit the Tauranga City Council website.

Relocating toilets

This is beyond belief. Leave Masonic toilets where they are and install a new block at Coronation Park. Take the cost out of the $80m+ allocated for the water front upgrade

Those toilets in the Masonic carpark were a problem for the misbehaving but the Strand toilets certainly will need improvement for our tourists & locals caught short. C’mon TCC.

I imagine the art gallery will suddenly become very attractive - being the closest and most central public building with public TOILETS!

Time for a pee

I'm just waiting for the bus at the downtown terminal, just time for a pee before my trip. Oh no the toilets are now miles away, shall I go, which means I will miss my bus or hang on and hope the traffic is not held up? We are now paying very high rates and the council are now taking the toilets away. How cheap skate can you get relocating toilets at a bus station to Coronation park. The Mount will love the second hand toilets. The council have known the cruise ships are coming back but know let's not give them some nice new toilets but some second hand ones we have stolen from the bus daqepot. Tauranga city council get your act together.

Unbelievable

Let's spend $80 odd million trying to attract folk into town, but NO toilets. How much will it cost to relocate toilets as oppose to installing some new ones ??

I don’t think people read

So the pilot bay toilets are going to be relocated to make them more suitable for tourists. Yet the Sunlive “readers” that don’t seem to read, seem to think they are being removed. Madness muppets.

You read the article again - "The public toilet block at Masonic Park on Willow Street in the City Centre is being removed. They are being relocated TO Coronation Park in Mount Maunganui to replace the toilet block that was destroyed by fire in January 2022."
