Armed police have arrested a person outside the Tauranga District Court today.

A reporter at the scene says she stepped out of the courthouse to see police had a person on the ground on Cameron Road.

"There were several officers and some were armed with rifles."

A police spokesperson confirmed they responded to an incident at the Tauranga Courthouse.

They say details are limited and an update will be provided once more information comes in.
