Police are reminding motorists to drive to the conditions due to bad weather.

There is a slip on State Highway 5, Ngongotaha Valley, and surface flooding across the area.

Police have received a report of a fallen tree on Omanawa Road about 11am. The incident has been passed on to council contractors to clear.

State Highway 35 is closed between Maraenui and Omaio due to multiple slips overnight. The detour route is via State Highway 2 Waioeka Gorge.

SH2 is closed between the Te Puna Rd and Clarke Rd intersections on both Saturday October 1 and Sunday October 2, between the hours of 5am and 4pm to allow for tree removal to take place.

A severe weather warning is in place for parts of the North Island, including a heavy rain watch for Coromandel, Bay of Plenty and Gisborne.

Driving to the conditions means:

  • Increasing your following distance.
  • It takes longer to stop in the rain.
  • Taking care while on the road.
  • Delaying unnecessary travel if you can.
  • Putting your headlights on - make yourself visible to other drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.
  • Slow down - take your time, be patient, allow extra time, arrive safely.

Plan ahead for a safe, enjoyable journey. Keep up to date with:
