A significant road slip on State Highway 33 is reportedly blocking both lanes of traffic and closed the highway.

A SunLive reader says the slip has completely blocked SH33 on Sunday morning.

"There's no way between Okere and Paengaroa - the slip is covering the road.

"It wasn't showing on Google maps due to low internet coverage."

The slip is reported to be about three kilometres past Allport Road towards Rotorua.

"It's on that steep passing lane."
