On this week's ‘Food Buzz' podcast, hosts Dawn Kiddie and Maddie Hughes sit down with Mount Maunganui's Mixture Eatery owner Sacha Pask to discuss her journey of founding one of Tauranga's most beloved cafés.

The hosts also talk the best doughnut in town after an extensive bakery crawl, which makes this an episode listeners won't want to glaze over.

When asked about the idea behind Mixture Eatery, Sacha says it all started out with 'a lot of love”.

'Having something for everyone has always been my vision, I like to cater for a wide range of people,” says Sacha.

'There's a lot of food allergies out there, there's men, women, dietary requirements, a lot of people with different preferences.”

Sacha says her creativity and background as a florist has given her the ability to put creativity into her own style of how food is displayed.

'It's a big part of what I try to create. We eat with our eyes so presentation is huge. Seeing a pile of food and beautiful displays is so important.”

She adds the display is done in the hopes of people walking in and thinking 'wow”.

Dawn says a strength of Mixture Eatery is the variety of the food, making it a 'family friendly” place.

'I find at a lot of cafés they have a great sweet, a great cabinet or a great menu but not all three,” says Dawn.

'You can really come in and get an eggs benedict, or you can get your miso soup, or a sandwich or sweet.”

Sacha says the inspiration to have the variety of food at her café was to 'cater for everyone”.

'There's such a diverse range of people out there that want to come into one place and enjoy everything. It's such a good place to meet. You can have a meeting there, and there's something for every situation.

'Then there's also a menu, so if you have the luxury of sitting in and having a beautiful cooked meal then you can do that.”

The top menu items at Mixture Eatery is 'hard to pinpoint” according to Sacha.

'If you're going with slices, I would say the blueberry caramel, but our chocolate mint is very good too.”
