UPDATE: A scrub fire reported on State Higheay 29A, near Poike, this morning is reported to be out now.
"It wasn't too big when I drove past," says a passing motorist, who only wanted to be known as Chris.
"The firefighters turned up not long after.
"However, it seemed to be pretty close to other scrub so it could have got out of control pretty fast if left unattended.
"Looks like it has since been put out."

Reports are coming in of a large scrub fire near Poike.
A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says firefighters are battling a fire on State Highway 29A, between Welcome Bay and Poike roads.
"It looks quite big. I couldn't tell you how big exactly.
"Motorists should be careful driving in the area and pay attention to the road, and not rubberneck."
