Reports are coming in of a large scrub fire in Katikati.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says they were working at home this morning, when they heard a loud popping sound.

"I have walked to the back of my property and can see lots of smoke coming from the Noble Johnson Drive area near the Uretara River."

Another caller says there is a scrub fire is running up the bank and heading towards bamboo in the area.

Firefighters are at the scene.
