Available parking in Tauranga's CBD will be diminishing this coming month, as the first stage of building New Zealand's largest timber office building gets underway
From Tuesday, November 1 to Thursday, November 17, sections of the Devonport Road off-street car park will be closed for ground testing.
This is to prepare for redevelopment of the site.
"Some of the car parking spaces will be unavailable during this time and people are advised to take care around the work sites,' says a Tauranga City Council spokesperson.
The Devonport Road off-street car park is accessed from the top/eastern end of Elizabeth Street.
Commencing early in the New Year, this site will be developed into what is set to be the largest mass timber office building in New Zealand. Once built, the premises will be home to all of Tauranga City Council's administration staff.
"A date for the permanent closure of this car park will be notified once the construction schedule for this development is confirmed."
Where to park in Tauranga CBD
It's free to park on the street in the city centre until December 1 2022. There's a two-hour time limit and then you need to move your vehicle to a paid parking area. If you're staying longer it's best to use the parking buildings or the all-day off-street car parks.

Ridiculous

Why are there still parking charges on Saturdays? The likes of banks, offices etc are shut so it won't be the workers taking the parks like they do during the week. And during the week the parking buildings should be free after 3pm til 6am.
Blah blah blah

Welcome to ghost town. Just in time for Halloween.
Could you make it any more difficult?

How much more can the council do to make life difficult for small businesses in Tauranga CBD and make the customer experience in visiting the CBD unpleasant and frustrating? No, don't answer that because I see they're already doing everything they can.

Two hours free parking and spaces available all over the place. Yet the usual moaners still have to find something to complain about.

for those that do go into town in the weekend, the car parking buildings are free, no need to find a park on the street, or take a bus...or walk

Wow one whole dollar……. Think I’ve paid 10-35 dollar for an hour in most other cities. As usual, Sunlive is full of complaints from people that think they live in 1960….. Imagine how you would cope in any other large city…..
