Armed incident reports: One taken into custody

UPDATE 2.51PM: One person has been taken into police custody following reports of an armed incident in Tauranga.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says there were at least four police vehicles on Turret Road near the bridge around 1.30pm.

A post on the Bay of Plenty & Waikato Accidents & Traffic Information Facebook page says there was a man on the bridge with a butcher's knife.

A police spokesperson says this "was in relation to a family harm incident at a nearby address".

"No one was injured.

"One person has been taken into custody.

EARLIER:

Reports are coming in of a large police presence near Turret Road in Tauranga.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says there are at least four police vehicles on Turret Road near the bridge.

"It looks like a dog handler and an ambulance is there as well.

"Traffic is backed up from Turret Road to Cameron Road. Fraser Street is blocked up as well.

"It looks like police are looking into the water."

The poster warns people to avoid the area.
