Heavy rain has hit Bay of Plenty and Coromandel overnight and there's more rain on the way for Auckland, but people are beginning to take stock of the damage.
There are a number of road closures mainly in the Waikato and Bay of Plenty.
A landslide is affecting a number of houses in the Maungatapu area. Building inspectors are expected to evaluate the damage this morning.
A resident from one of the affected houses says they are glad everyone is alright.
A number of State Highways also remain closed due to widespread flooding and slips in the upper North Island.
State Highway 1 from Orewa to Warkworth will be closed northbound until midday today.
Waka Kotahi says people should expect delays at a number of spots.
On today's weather forecast, MetService says a strong and humid northeast flow remains over northern and central New Zealand.
Auckland including Great Barrier Island has showers forecast, but heavy rain is possible today, continuing into Monday morning.
Thunderstorms are also possible.
Auckland councillor for Waitākere, Shane Henderson, says the threat of more rain is hanging over them.
