It was a blustering start to Day Two of the NZCT AIMS Games at Mount Main Beach this morning when hundreds of athletes turned out to enjoy some BMX action with Olympic medalist Sarah Walker.
Broadcasting live from Mount Maunganui was TVNZ's Breakfast show with weatherman Sam Wallace providing some beachside antics.

Spectators braving the wind and rain enjoyed the thrills and spills of a BMX challenge, which saw Sam take on silver medalist Sarah, and Classic Hits FM host Will Johnston in a mad dash rally.
Olympic gold medalist Mahe Drysdale joined fellow Olympians and AIMS athletes on Main Beach for a rugby run-around with Bay of Plenty Steamers' mascot Steamie.
More than 6000 students from 164 intermediate schools throughout New Zealand and two from Australia are in Tauranga for the week long AIMS Games competition.
Athletes will compete in 16 different codes of sports including swimming, basketball, netball, indoor bowls, golf, water polo, hockey and rugby league at different venues around the Western Bay of Plenty.
Event organiser Vicki Semple says it has been an amazing to start to the competition with more to come this week.

Skateboard bowl at the beach?

This is great positive stuff. Shame about the windy rainy weather. I love the skateboard bowl at venice beach.... how about one at the mount? Or, some kind of circular bike/dirt track through an area of the dunes? Or, a walkway around leisure island? It'd be tricky to build, but, how awesome would that be?
