A crane has arrived and piling work is commencing at 90 Devonport Road, which is set to become the site of the country's largest mass timber office building in Tauranga's city centre.

Piling work commences today Monday, March 13, and is expected to take around three months to complete. Hours of work will be Monday to Saturday from 7am until 6pm.

"People in the area can expect some noise, however, this will be minimised by the piling methodology being used," says a council spokesperson.

"Some ground vibration may occur at times due to heavy machinery moving on the site."

The future home of the Tauranga City Council administration staff is being constructed through a collaborative partnership between Council, property developers Willis Bond, construction company LT McGuinness, architects Warren and Mahoney, and mana whenua.

Parking on Elizabeth Street East will be reduced and traffic management for deliveries of machinery and reinforcing will be in place.

Council's administration staff are expected to relocate to the building by the start of 2025. This will be the first time since 2014 that all administration staff will be under the same roof.

And how many floors

of underground parking to accommodate all the leased business' staff and customers have been required? The solution to the extreme lack of downtown parking isn't more ratepayer funded parking buildings, it lands squarely in a requirement that all commercial new builds provide a high level of parking and are responsible for catering to those who will work in and use the building.

I can't find any details of what the building will be like, it's like everything with this dictatorial commission, they don't want the people to know what it is that we are being forced to pay for. However, I suspect that Council will have demanded that it has no parking at all, which is all part of council's plan to destroy the central city, the only thing that they have ever succeeded in doing.

Carparks are a thing of the past as we are all expected to walk, cycle or take a bus. No attraction for me with these apartments at all.
