A person is due to appear in court today following a serious assault in Papamoa overnight.

Police say a male victim is said to be seriously injured following being stabbed by a female.

A 31-year-old female has been arrested and charged with assault following a serious domestic incident in Papamoa early on Saturday morning.

Police say she has been arrested and charged with assault with a stabbing/cutting weapon.

"She is expected in Tauranga District Court today," says a police spokesperson.

"The male victim is said to be seriously injured."

SunLive readers report that there are police cars at the house with a cordon in place.

"[It has been] going on in Papamoa since early hours of this morning. Two police cars still at scene and house cordoned off," says a SunLive reader.
