Police investigating Tauranga car fire

Tauranga Police are investigating a suspected arson following a car fire earlier this morning.

Firefighters were called to a car fire in Judea just after 6am.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand northern fire communications shift manager Colin Underdown says they responded to reports of a car fire on a private property.

A reporter at the scene says one fire appliance was in attendance and quickly had the fire under control.

The reporter says police were also called to the scene.

"Police were notified of a car fire on Otumoetai Road, Judea, at around 6.10am," a police spokesperson confirmed to SunLive.

"There are no reports of injuries.

"Enquiries are ongoing."

Anyone with information that may help the police's investigation can contact their nearest police station.
