MetService is issuing a snowfall warning for Desert Road, SH1.

The warning is valid from 8pm Tuesday, August 15 to 2.00am Wednesday, August 16. 

"Snow showers are possible about the summit tonight and the very early hours of Wednesday morning, and 1 to 2 cm may settle on the road," says a MetService spokesperson.

"Another period of snow is possible from 4pm Wednesday through until 3pm Thursday, with the snow level lowering to 900 metres Wednesday night. 2 to 4 cm of snow may settle on the road at times near the summit, with lesser amounts to 900 metres."

The snowfall warning is valid from 8pm Tuesday, August 15 to 2.00am Wednesday, August 16.
