Tauranga school lockdown after police incident

Police were called to an incident outside Greenpark School around 2.45pm.

A Tauranga school went into lockdown this afternoon following an incident involving police.

Parents of students at Greenpark School have contacted SunLive to report the lockdown.

The lockdown, while brief, has sparked questions from people wondering what was the cause of it.

A police spokesperson says they responded to reports of a man walking up Cameron Road with a stick around 2:45pm.

"Police arrived and spoke to the person.

"The school self-elected into lock down and was informed."

Police say it appears to have been mental health related and no other action was required.
