Reports are coming in of an armed police operation in Tauranga.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says armed police have "surrounded a white house on Anzac Road in Gate Pa."

He says they have been there for a while and believes someone is holed up inside.

A police spokesperson it is a pre-planned police operation.

"Armed Offenders are assisting as a precaution.

"We have no further information at this time."
