Car struck by train in Pukehina

One person is reported to have been injured after a train hit a car in Pukehina.

Emergency services were called to the crash on Ohinepanea Road, just off State Highway 2, around 4pm.

A police spokesperson confirmed to SunLive that a "car had been struck by a train".

"One person is reported to have moderate to serious injuries.

"We don’t have any further information at this stage."

No road blockages or traffic delays have been reported in the area via Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency or Google Maps' Live Traffic reporting.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash.

Bit of a black spot

While traffic generally slows to cross this rail line, it's a wonder there are not severe crashes caused by vehicles cruising past the stop sign onto SH2. Left turning vehicles hardly ever stop at this busy intersection which has all the necessary signage.
