Power is out to hundreds of homes in the central Tauranga region.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says the traffic lights at the intersection of Cameron Road and Elizabeth Street are not working.

According to Powerco, power is out to 255 properties in that area. This is what will be affecting the traffic lights.

A site investigation is underway into the cause of the outage.

Contractors are working to restore the supply as soon as possible.

People travelling in the are are being urged to drive with caution and stick to the road rules.
