Homicide investigation launched in Whakatāne

Police have launched a homicide investigation after a man died in Whakatāne last night.

Around 9.40pm on Sunday, the man in his 20s was brought to hospital with life-threatening injuries, but was pronounced dead soon after arrival at hospital.

"Police are making inquiries into how the man came to be injured, and are appealing to the public for any information," says a police spokesperson.

"Initial inquiries suggest the man may have suffered his injuries in Tāneatua, and Police are continuing their investigations there today."
