Police appeal for information about stabbing

Police are appealing for information in relation to a stabbing on State Highway 27, Springdale, Matamata-Piako District on Sunday, December 10.

The stabbing occurred at the site of a meeting of illegal street racers on State Highway 27 that night, say police.

"The incident where two people were stabbed – suffering moderate to serious injuries – occurred at around 12.30am," says a police spokesperson.

"Enquiries into the full circumstances of what occurred during this incident are ongoing, and a number of items were seized from the scene to assist with our investigations."

The other people involved are believed to have been travelling in a white BMW sedan.

A witness has described how a man was lying unconscious on the ground, holding his organs, after being stabbed at the car meet in Waikato, where over a thousand people showed up.

"If you have any footage or information which may assist our investigation into this incident, or of a white BMW sedan leaving the area around the time of the stabbing, please contact Police on 105 and reference file number: 231210/2447."
