Fire has destroyed a house in the Coromandel on Saturday afternoon.
Three houses have been involved in a large fire at Cooks Beach today, with the fire destroying a water-front house and also spreading to a neighbouring property.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand was alerted to the first at around 12.30pm.
Flames and smoke could be seen from as far away as Whitianga.
Brigades from Cooks Beach, HaHei, Hot Water Beach, Tairua, Pauanui and Whitianga were called in to fight the blaze.
"The original blaze in the two-storey house is under control," says a FENZ spokesperson.
"Hotspots are being dampened down at the second property, which is also two storeys high."
According to Fire and Emergency, one home was totally destroyed and a second has received extensive damage. A third property had minor damage to gutters and other superficial areas of the house.
