Paraglider unhurt after crash at Mount Maunganui

Update, 1.55pm: Police report that emergency services have been responding to reports of a paraglider needing assistance at Mount Maunganui.

The paraglider is reported to have crashed into trees on Mauao, following taking off from the summit.

"[It] does not appear there are any injuries," says a police spokesperson.

"The person is making their own way off the mountain."

Earlier, 12.10pm: A paraglider is reported to have crashed into trees on Mauao, at Mount Maunganui.

Emergency services have arrived at the base of Mauao in response to the incident.

Sunlive readers report that three fire trucks and six police vehicles were seen coming through downtown Mount Maunganui, with sirens on. Ambulance are also attending.

It is unknown at this stage if the paraglider is injured.
