Following two daylight smash-and-grabs at the Bayfair Michael Hill's store on Saturday and the Silverdale Michael Hill's store on Sunday, CEO Daniel Bracken is acknowledging the jeweller’s security and safeguarding measures remain integral.

Today, a single offender entered Michael Hill’s Silverdale store in an attempted smash-and-grab, however was unable to penetrate the armoured glass displays. Fog cannons were also activated. The assailant fled the scene and has since been apprehended by police.

On Saturday, offenders entered Michael Hill at Bayfair Shopping Centre at approximately 3pm, attempting to smash cabinets, with many unable to be breached; before fleeing, as store alarms and fog cannons were activated. Police are making enquiries to locate the offenders.

Daniel says Michael Hill has continued its efforts to increase security measures across all New Zealand stores, implementing a comprehensive program of safeguard measures, including smash-proof Assault glass.

He says this, in addition to fog cannons, alarm screamers, personal alarms for staff, additional security cameras and the use of DNA spray technology demonstrates the jeweller’s continued commitment to enhancing the safety and protection of its team members and customers.

“We have continued to review our security measures to ensure we are doing everything we can to protect our team and customers," says Daniel.

"With continued offending in New Zealand, we have been rolling out Assault glass across our stores as an added security measure."

Daniel says the anti-bandit armoured glass can withstand repeated heavy blows, making it near impossible to penetrate.

"It’s incredibly disturbing to see these incidents continue, and as such the implementation of Assault glass across all stores remains a priority,' says Daniel.

“We are thankful to the New Zealand Police for their quick response to the incident and will continue working closely with them to ensure our team and customers are protected”.

Police are making enquiries to locate the robbers involved in the smash and grab at Bayfair Shopping Centre on Saturday afternoon.

"The offenders left in a vehicle, which was located abandoned on Alverstoke Street around 3.10pm," says a police spokesperson.

Right on the button. Totally agree with you.
Enough mampy pampy from weak court Judges. Forget about cultural reports. They know right from wrong. That's why they cover their faces, carry weapons, run and don't hang around.
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.
