Update, 6pm: One person has been taken to hospital in a serious condition following a crash on State Highway 29 in the lower Kaimai area on Sunday afternoon.

"Police were notified of a collision involving a car and a motorcycle near the intersection of McLaren Falls Road and SH 29 around 3.35pm," says a police spokesperson.

"One person was transported to hospital in a serious condition."

"Traffic management is in place on SH29."

A SunLive reader says he arrived at the scene just after the crash occurred.

"The damaged motorbike -  it looked like a tricycle motorbike - although it was significantly smashed up with debris spread all over the road, damaged car, and seriously injured rider - were all on the road blocking traffic traveling towards Tauranga on SH29, directly across from the entrance to McLaren Falls Road," says the SunLive reader.

"Unfortunately, I've seen too many accidents at this exact location, because I have travelled between Tauranga and Hamilton on a regular basis over the past 40 years. [We are] very concerned for the injured man. Pray he is okay."

Earlier, 4.35pm: Emergency services are responding to the scene of a vehicle crash on State Highway 29, in the lower Kaimai range.

"Due to a crash blocking a lane, caution is advised on this route," says an NZTA Waka Kotahi spokesperson.

The crash is about one kilometre northwest of McLaren Falls.

It is unknown at this stage if there are any injuries.
