Explosive threat: Tauranga building evacuated

Police were called to the commercial premise around 10.45am.

The discovery of a “potential explosive threat” has forced the evacuation of the commercial premise in Tauranga.

Police were called to the property on Whiore Ave in Tauriko at 10.45am.

A police spokesperson says the event relates to “potential risk of explosives”.

“While examining declared firearms, Customs staff discovered some items that may pose potential explosive threats.

“As a result, the building was evacuated and the police cordon was put in place to secure the premises.”

New Zealand Defence Force bomb staff were notified and were responding to the incident.

Inquiries are ongoing.
