Two trophies named after pioneers of Rugby Sevens in the Bay of Plenty will be on the line for the first time in the BOPRU Club 7's, being played at the Paengaroa Domain on Saturday.

A full field of ten teams from the Bay of Plenty have entered the senior men's division, three sides will contest the women's title, with three entries for the new tight five division.

The tight five players must be over 105kg or have played in any of the tight 5 positions during the 2012 club season.

The tight five grade is strongly focused on participation and enjoyment with Whakatane Marist, Te Puna and Paroa having entered teams in the new division

There is likely to be serious competition in both the men and women's title races.

In the Pool A of the men's grade, Te Puke Sports, who won back to back Baywide Premier titles, are sure to come ready play from the opening whistle.

Both Mount Maunganui and Rangataua are always serious about the abbreviated version of the game, with Kahukura and Marist St Michaels representing the Rotorua region in the tournament.

In Pool B, Rangiuru have shown a renewed interest in the 7's game and could be the team to beat.

Tauranga Sports and Te Puna are always contenders at the annual Bay club 7's tournament, with Paroa and Edgecumbe flying the flag for the Eastern Bay of Plenty region.

The degree of the Rangiuru renaissance in the 7's game is shown by the clubs entry of a women's team, as the chase both the Gordon Tietjens and Exia Edwards trophies.

However, the Te Puke based side will receive plenty of competition from two invitation teams from the Western Bay and Waikato.

The entrée to the club 7's is the Secondary Schools 7's tournament to be played at the Paengaroa Domain today.

The tournament will encompass Under 19 boys and girl's divisions along with an Under 15 grade for boys.

There is an extra edge to the Bay competition, with both the Under 19 boys and girls winners progressing to the National Secondary Schools Condor 7's in Auckland during December 2012.

An additional incentive at the Schools tournament will be the selection of two secondary schools training squads. The best 18 boys and girls players will be selected to attend a Bay of Plenty Schools 7's camp at Mount Maunganui on the 10 November 2012.
