Sadly, a man has passed away on Pāpāmoa Beach on Saturday morning.

Police advise that this is due to a medical event, and is not being treated as suspicious.

Police also say that next-of-kin have been notified following this sudden death.

A SunLive reader says Police were called to the scene of a fisherman who was found dead sitting in his chair on Pāpāmoa Beach.

The public have been diverted from that section of the beach, which is reported to be near Harrison's Cut.

"Police were there stopping the public," says a SunLive reader.

"My neighbours and I were on the beach and saw what looked like a body covered in a white sheet - on a chair."

SunLive readers also report that on Friday night, April 19, a helicopter was seen flying out from the beach at Pāpāmoa East.

Police say the helicopter related to a report they received of a person missing in the water.

"They have since made contact with police on land, safe and well. Staff have been stood down," says a police spokesperson.

I can't think of a more beautiful place.....and doing what he clearly loved to do. What a blessing.
