Police are today releasing the name of the person who died following a crash on State Highway 2, near Pukehina.

Andrew John Blakeborough, 39, of Morrinsville. died after a car and truck crashed on the highway on Monday, July 8.

Police say the driver of the other vehicle was flown to hospital with serious injuries.

The fatal crash forced authories to close the road for several hours to allow the serious crash investigation team time to examine the scene.

The highway was reopened early Tuesday morning.

In a statement released today, a police spokesperson says police "extend our sympathies to his family and friends during this difficult time".

"Enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing."
