One person is in critical condition following a serious crash.

Emergency services were called to the single vehicle crash on Waihi Whangamata Road, near Parakiwai Quarry Road, Whangamata around 6.30pm on Thursday.

"One person is in a critical condition and was transported to Waikato Hospital via helicopter," says a police spokesperson.

The Serious Crash Unit is inestigating the matter.

The road was closed overnight, but NZTA reports that it is now re-open.
