Bay defeats Counties

Bay of Plenty wrapped up their most successful ND one-day tournament for some time when they defeated Counties Manukau on day three with five wickets to spare.

The day belonged to Bay skipper Jono Boult who was playing his 50th game for Bay of Plenty.

A six wicket bag and 27 runs capped off a significant day of milestones for the Bay of Plenty captain.

The six wickets were the third collected by Boult since his debut for the Bay in the 2003/04 season.

Batting first Counties Manukau batsmen came and went at the crease and were removed for just 132.

Boult did the majority of the damage with ball returning 6/30.

Led by Bharat Popli who top scored with an unbeaten 30 and a quick fire 29 (from 25 balls) from Bay keeper Tim Clarke – Bay of Plenty secured victory for the loss of five wickets.

Two solid victories and the unfortunate loss by a solitary run to Hamilton, due to the need for Duckworth Lewis calculations, has put the Bay of Plenty side in a strong position for the remainder of the Fergus Hickey Rosebowl competition.

They also wrapped up the ND Hawke Cup challenge and will play for the long time NZC minor association trophy in March next year.
