Rolled forklift, person taken to hospital

UPDATED: One person is in Tauranga Hospital after a forklift rolled in Mount Maunganui. 

Fire crews lifted a forklift to free a person after it rolled earlier today.

Emergency services were called to Links Ave, near the Links Ave reserve, at noon.

Acting Senior Sergeant Bruce Gordon says the person’s leg was trapped after the forklift rolled.

Fire crews lifted the forklift to free the man, says Bruce.

“It appears he may have fractures to his leg.”

A St John spokesperson says one person was taken to Tauranga Hospital in a moderate condition. The road has reopened.

A Fire and Emergency NZ spokesperson says two crews attended the scene.

EARLIER:

Reports are coming in of a crash on Links Ave, Mount Maunganui. 

"Emergency services have been called to a Links Road address about 11.50 after an incident which appears to have involved heavy machinery," says a police spokesperson.

An 0800SunLive caller says there appears to be an oil spill on the road.

According to the Bay of Plenty Times, a person is trapped under a forklift in Mount Maunganui.

A Fire and Emergency NZ spokesman says crews were sent to an address about 11.49am.

“We are currently working to extricate the person.”

Crews from Mount Maunganui and Tauranga are at the scene.

St John are also on scene.
