UPDATE 8AM: One person has died following a crash on State Highway 29.
Police were called to the two-vehicle crash, on the Matamata side of the Kaimai Range, at about 5:45pm on Thursday.
"Sadly, the person died at the scene," says a police spokesperson.
"The Serious Crash unit conducted a scene examination and enquiries are ongoing.
"The road has since reopened."
EARLIER:
State Highway 29 is open this morning following a serious crash.
Police and Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency issued an alert last night saying the highway was closed following a two-vehicle crash on the Matamata side of the Kaimai Range.
Police say the serious crash unit was called in to examine the scene.
SunLive has appraoched police for more information this morning and will provide an update when we can.
Meanwhile, NZTA says the highway is now full open.

I cannot see that it's necessary to shut a state highway down for 8hrs. Take photos, use drones reopen.
