Hato Hone St John is calling on New Zealanders to save ambulances for medical emergencies and serious injuries during further strike action proposed by union members today.  

A second withdrawal of labour began at 4am today, Saturday, August 24, by ambulance personnel members of First Union and the Amalgamated Workers Union New Zealand Inc. (NZAA division) following strikes earlier this week on Tuesday, August 20.  

Hato Hone St John has plans in place to ensure it can respond to emergencies during the strike action.

"Patient safety and wellbeing remain our top priority, and we have plans in place to provide emergency care during this time," says a Hato Hone St John spokesperson.

"We remind the public to only call 111 for an ambulance in a medical emergency or serious injury. 

"If your call is non-urgent, there may be a delay, or you may be asked to self-transport to hospital or a medical clinic if it is considered safe for you to do so. 

"If you are a health provider and are referring patients to an Emergency Department, encourage them to seek alternative transport options whenever it is feasible and safe to do so."
