Tauranga-educated students, who were born in New Zealand, can now apply for a 2025 tertiary scholarship from the Otumoetai Lions’ Taiwan Education Trust.

The trust has offered grants to local students for more than 25 years – and now calls on Tauranga youth to apply for 2025′s round of scholarships.

“The scholarship is on offer to those going to tertiary education – preferably undertaking a medical degree,” says Tauranga Moana Lion and trust secretary Robert Miller.

“However, there is scope to grant a scholarship to those undertaking other degrees, depending on who applies.”

Last year’s recipient Zoe Coldrick says the scholarship alleviated her financial burdens during her first year of studies. “It was significantly helpful, enabling me to fully concentrate on my academic pursuits without the stress of managing living expenses.”

Now in her second year of studying for a Bachelor of Science degree, double majoring in chemistry and cell and molecular biology, Zoe’s ultimate goal is to enter the pharmaceutical industry.

“The path to achieving this dream is lengthy and financially demanding, requiring four-five years of university education. So I’m deeply thankful to the trust for their assistance, which has allowed me to excel in my studies and move closer to achieving my career aspirations.”

Applications close Monday, December 2, and interviews take place December 14.

From here the trust decides how much funds to grant for 2025, and how many applicants are successful – usually two-three.
