Secondary school cricket finals

There is plenty on the line this Saturday in the last round of qualifying play in the Western Bay Secondary School First XI competition.

With four points on the line in each of the three encounters, four teams have an opportunity to make the final to be played on December 8, 2012.

There is a top of the table clash at Bethlehem College, where the home side, who lead the qualifying competition, will meet second placed Otumoetai College.

In the other game, Eastern Bays Trident High School, which play in the Western Bay competition by invitation, will square off against Aquinas College.

One of the real success stories of the inaugural competition, are the three players from the Secondary School XI completion, who have earned selection in the BOP Coastland Senior Secondary representative team.

Otumoetai College's Tim Klyen and Julian Bradley will be joined in the team by Brody Gilroy from Katikati College.

The Coastland side will take part in the annual ND Senior Secondary tournament to be played in Gisborne 17/21 December.

Season batting honours are currently held by Pip Thickpenny (Trident HS), who blasted 136 in his first competition game of the season, while fellow Trident bowler Tom Casey heads the bowling total with eight wickets.
