Primary tournament first day

The two Bay of Plenty teams at the Northern Districts Primary tournament being played in Hamilton 21/23 as part of the last three rounds of the annual ND tournament posted a win and a loss on day one.

BOP Coastland master blaster Hayze Perham continued his outstanding tournament form, top scoring with a solid 57 runs, as his side reached 227/7 against Waikato Valley South.

Kuhu Tataurangi (35no) and Juan Nieuwoudt (32no) both made handy contributions.

The Bay bowlers then took control to dismiss the Waikato Valley team for 109, which gave the Lakeland side a 118 run victory.

The BOP Coastland side were involved in a batting duel with Counties Manukau. Led by Josh Earle (68) and Mikaere Leef (63no), the Bay of Plenty representatives posted a good-sized target, when they finished at 188/3.

However the Counties batsman got ahead of the required run rate and reached their target for the loss of five wickets.
