What about an inland port?

How many times do we have to reconstruct Tōtara Street? The contractors have hardly gone and we're thinking of four-laning it.

How about some constructive thinking instead?

There is plenty of room alongside the Tauranga Eastern Link where a business hub is under construction.

It’s an ideal place for an inland port such as the one in the Waikato.

If our export logs and containers were to be off-loaded there, loaded onto trains and then to the port it would relieve our roads of the majority of heavy transport.

Ditto with the Hamilton inland port and the Kaimais.

Now we only have to relocate the fuel storage tanks and fertiliser plant and not only will our roads benefit, but the air will be much sweeter.

I can see Glen Crowther is concerned about congestion in this area and I would hope he will consider this alternative.
