The Western Bay of Plenty District Council is reviewing its Kaimai Ward Reserve Management Plan, which includes 50 reserves, including playgrounds, sports grounds, bush trails, and picnic spots.

It will shape how we care for these spaces for the next nine years. The plan was reviewed in 2016 and is being updated to reflect a growing community, the council’s senior recreation planner, Jason Crummer, said.

“We’ve made great progress since 2016, but we want to continue to deliver what the community needs, so it’s crucial that we plan for the future together,” he said.

“The community knows these spaces best, and we want your ideas to be at the heart of this plan.”

He said it is a chance to help create welcoming, sustainable, and ready-for-generations-to-come spaces.

“It could be a few extra trees for shade, a walking track to connect neighbourhoods or even new playground equipment. Whatever it is, we’re here to listen.”

The revised plan will set the direction for reserves in the Kaimai ward area for the next nine years in Ōmokoroa, Te Puna, Whakamārama, Omanawa, Kaimai, Ohauiti and Oropi.

“We want to make sure our green spaces continue to reflect the needs and values of the people who use them. Your feedback will guide what we focus on,” Crummer said.
