Haeata Charitable Trust and the Gate Pā community are joining forces with Western Bay of Plenty Neighbourhood Support to host a free community event in Gate Pāto next month to promote connectedness and safety.

They are combining to stage the Sirens and Services event at Anzac Park, Gate Pā, on Saturday, November 16, from 10am to 2pm. In case of rain, the event will be rescheduled to the following Saturday, November 23.

The fun neighbours’ day will highlight the importance of staying connected within the community. Families will find valuable information about local community services and community safety and enjoy entertainment, spot prizes and local food trucks.

The event also provides a platform for local groups to fundraise.

A key focus of the event is to raise awareness for the new Gate Pā Community Centre to be built next to Anzac Park, which is to become a hub for Gate Pā residents.

Teisha Paratene, chair of Haeata Charitable Trust, said the trust was excited to bring the Gate Pā community together for the special event.

“It’s a great chance for everyone to connect, learn about local services, and enjoy a day of fun activities,” she said.

At the Gate Pā event services attending include Fire and Emergency Community Education, Tauranga City Council’s Emergency Management team, Hato Hone St John and various community services including the Super Support programme, EmployNZ Driver Licencing and Youth Services programme, Bay Financial Mentors and Kids Campus Childcare.

City councillors Rod Taylor and Marten Rozeboom are contributing a koha towards Mr Whippy ice creams. The funds raised will be directed back to the Gate Pā community for more events and activities in conjunction with the Haeata CharitableTrust.

Neighbourhood Support works to make homes, streets, neighbourhoods and communities safer and more caring places, and people can sign up to become members for free at the event.
