Sangha batsman blasts century

The withdrawal of Papamoa from the Western Bay of Plenty Reserve grade cricket competition has resulted in competition leaders Mount Maunganui seconds, playing a friendly encounter with R&A Sangha CC at the weekend.

While the result counted for nothing in the competition standings - a feature of the match was a century blasted by Sangha batsmen Sunil Gaur.

The Sangha side were bowled out for 220, with the contribution from Gaur playing a big part in their total – with the match going down to the wire, with Mount Maunganui getting home with just two wickets to spare.

Katikati advanced up the point's ladder, when they repelled the challenge of the Mount Maunganui thirds at the Uretara Domain.

The visitors batted first and mustered 190 all out, with Vern Kohi (72) and Jimmy Davis (36) making significant contributions, while Simon Turnbull (4/21) and Jimmy Paton (4/49) did the damage with the ball for the home team.

Katikati strolled to victory losing just three wickets on the way, with Matt Harrison posting an unbeaten 52 runs.

Greerton retained second place in the title race in spite of being beaten by Cadets, while Te Puke cemented the third spot in the standings with an 83 run victory over Tauranga Boys' College.

In The B Grade competition, a good knock of 95 from Wanderers Dion Bartosh put his side in a strong position against Katikati, with Wanderers going on to reach 221/3. Led by Paul Fives (4/22) they then bowled Katikati out for just 97 to post a solid win.

Malwa CC continued their place at the top of the B Grade standings, after posting 190 all out and then restricting Greerton to 108/9. Mount Maunganui lost to Albion, with Grasshoppers winning a high scoring game against Cadets.
