Showers wipe out Knights match

Showers wiped out much of the first day's play between Northern Knights and Canterbury Wizards at Seddon Park, Hamilton yesterday, but not before the Knights took a slight upper hand.

The home side progressed to 125/2 from 50.5 overs after losing the toss and being asked to bat, with Joseph Yovich (40) and Daryl Mitchell (8) the not out batsman.

Earlier, Wizards' English import Gareth Andrews claimed the scalp of Brad Wilson in the fourth over of the day to reduce the Knights to 9/1, while James Marshall fell in the 41st over to Ryan McCone for 47.

Play was scheduled to start at 10am today to make up for lost time.

Blackcap BJ Watling is next in and will keep wicket in a bid to push the underperforming Kruger van Wyk out of the national test side.
