Western Bay of Plenty District Council is inviting residents to provide feedback on its Traffic and Parking Enforcement Bylaw as part of a scheduled review.

Policy analyst Charlotte McGirr said community input is essential to ensure the bylaw meets the needs of both residents and visitors. The feedback received will help shape an updated draft bylaw, which the council will seek further input on later this year.

“This bylaw is an important tool for managing parking and traffic across our district. It helps us regulate parking spaces, implement traffic management measures, and make sure our roads and public places are safe and accessible for everyone,” said McGirr.

The review allows the community to share their experiences, highlight what is working, suggest improvements, and identify any gaps.

McGirr also emphasised the need for the bylaw to keep pace with the district’s growth and evolving transport needs.

“The Traffic and Parking Enforcement Bylaw was last reviewed in 2019. With our growing district comes increasing demand for parking and safer traffic management. We need to make sure the bylaw is fit for purpose and continues to support the way people move around our community,” she said.

The bylaw covers three key areas: parking prohibitions and controls, traffic and vehicle controls, and offences and enforcement.

It includes regulations on parking restrictions, vehicle use, impounding, removal, and penalties for non-compliance. However, speed limits are not included, as they are governed under separate legislation.

The council is encouraging residents to have their say to help shape future parking and traffic management in the rohe. Feedback from this engagement will contribute to refining the updated bylaw.
