Some sort of cricket record is to be set at the Bay Oval at Mount Maunganui on Saturday and Sunday when five Black Caps take the field for Bay of Plenty against Counties Manukau.

Cory Anderson, who has been named in the Black Cap T20 squad to play South Africa, will join Trent Boult, Graeme Aldridge, Daniel Flynn and Kane Williamson in the Bay side.

Five of the Black Caps wll be playing cricket at the Bay Oval this weekend.

Anderson who shifted to the Western Bay of Plenty during the winter, made his Bay of Plenty debut two weeks ago against Northland at the Bay Oval.

At season start Cory joined Otumoetai Cadets, where he has fitted in one game where he hit an unbeaten half-century and grabbed a wicket for the Baywide heavyweights.

The prospect of five Black Caps and a further three players, who have earned selection for the Northern Knights playing for the Bay over the weekend, had Bay cricket fans scurrying for the history books.

While Trent Boult, Kane Williamson, Graeme Aldridge and Daniel Flynn are graduates of the Bay of Plenty Cricket pathway – in previous times a number of New Zealand players stopped off in the Bay during their playing careers.

The first was New Zealand wicket keeper Eric Petrie who played in the Blue and Gold uniform between 1963 and 1968.

In the 1981/82 season Bay of Plenty had the services New Zealand players Lance Cairns, Geoff Howarth, Chris Kuggeleijn and Andy Roberts with All Black Grant Fox also playing for the Bay in the same season.

However, it is unlikely that the five would have been on the same field together as Kuggeleijn played just a solitary game for the Bay.

Andy Roberts was a mainstay of the Bay sides in the 1980's numbering 34 appearances, with Lance Cairns playing on 14 occasions during his five years in the Bay of Plenty.

Grant Fox played just two seasons in the early eighties and earned 9 Bay of Plenty caps.
