Tenants said they were “shocked and relieved” that no one was seriously injured after a car rammed into the side of their three-bedroom rental home in Greerton.
A police spokesperson confirmed they responded to a single-vehicle crash on Chadwick Rd where a car had gone through a fence and into a house on Friday.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand northern shift manager Paul Radden said their service was notified at 1.28pm.
“Greerton and Tauranga fire crews attended. A motor vehicle hit a building. It was left it in the hands of police.”

The couple living in the rental property said it could have ended in tragedy.
The mother said two minutes before the crash, about 1.24pm, their two-year-old son had been playing in his bedroom and as she walked him to another room for an afternoon nap, she heard a huge bang.
On investigating she was shocked to see a vehicle wedged into the side of their home.
“He had been playing near a wardrobe which was damaged in the crash,” the mother said.
The car, a 1997 Honda CRV Station Wagon, rammed into the brick exterior of the house, coming to rest between the child’s bedroom and another bedroom used by his father as a study and place of worship.
“The driver of the vehicle who was still seated behind his wheel was trying to get out,” she said.
She encouraged the driver to wait until ambulance and police had arrived as he had cuts to his feet and was bleeding.
“The ambulance treated him at the scene and after he spoke to police, he walked off.”

A Hato Hone St John spokesperson confirmed one patient in moderate condition was assessed and treated at the scene.
The mother said two people who allegedly witnessed the crash called emergency services.
She said the witnesses told her the crashed car was heading along Chadwick Rd toward Fraser St roundabout, and appeared to have swerved, first hitting a white car parked on the grass verge on the roadside.
It then swerved again, crashing into the side of her house, causing what appeared to be significant damage.
“It was really shocking,” said the father. “I was thinking of my son the whole time I was driving home, and I was shocked and amazed he and my wife were not injured.”

A reporter at the scene said there were several police officers there, as well as a Rowe Motors tow truck that took away the Honda.
While none of the occupants of the house were injured, they said they found it frightening seeing the vehicle wedged into the side of their house, and the resulting damage.
The second bedroom sustained damages to the wardrobe, furniture, items of worship and exterior wall.
The landlord at the scene confirmed the property was insured and the full extent of the damages was still being assessed.
