Bay of Plenty sailor Peter Burling has followed up his silver medal at last year's Olympics' to claim the 2013 Australian Moth Championships Regatta.

Held at the Wangi RSL Sailing Club, north of Sydney in New South Wales, Australia, last week, the 21-year-old continued his strong form to dominate the fleet of nearly 70 boats.

During the 15 race series staged over six days, Peter won no less than ten of the races.

He only finished outside the top six in just one race and concluded the regatta 14 points clear of second place-getter Scott Babbage. Reigning world champion in the Moth Joshua McKnight finished third.

While not a World Championship Regatta the fleet in Wangi, was entirely world class and included Joshua McKnight (2012 Moth World Champion, AUS), Tom Slingsby (2012 Olympic Laser Champion, AUS), Nathan Outteridge (2012 Olympic 49er Champion helm, AUS) and Iain Jensen (2012 Olympic 49er Champion crew, AUS).

Peter, the 2012 Olympic silver medallist in the 49er skiff class is an enthusiast of the exciting foiling Moth class having owned one for a few years, and he successfully combined Moth racing with his Olympic campaigning during his long-term build up to the 2012 London Games.

The International Moth is an 11 foot long high performance dinghy. Sailed single-handed it's a fast and exciting hydro-foiling dinghy which appears to fly above the water, and provides for spectacular racing, and plenty of ‘wipe outs'.

The 2013 Moth World Championships are on in Hawaii in October.

Peter will team up with Olympic partner Blair Tuke in the 49er early next month at 2013 Oceanbridge Sail Auckland Regatta.

New Zealand's ISAF Grade 1 Regatta for Olympic and Paralympic classes is being hosted by Royal Akarana Yacht Club and runs from 2^nd – 5^th February 2013.
