Unbeaten records on the line

After two rounds into the 2013 Williams Cup just Element IMF Cadets and Te Puke will take unbeaten records into Saturdays round three.

Baywide heavyweights Cadets, who are gunning for their tenth Williams Cup title, have the luxury of a hometown venue when East Bay United pay a visit to the Tauranga Domain.

Last weekend Cadets were on the road when they eked out victory over Rotorua Central at Smallbone Park, in the Sulphur City.

After removing the home team for 117, the visitors got home with five wickets to spare. However they will be without last week's match winner Jono Boult, who is on Northern Knights duty this weekend.

The Cadets skipper showed his all-round ability with four wickets and his side's top score of 46.

There will be few better opportunities for East Bay United to return home victorious as Cadets have also lost the services of Joe Carter, Scott Steward and Sean Davey, who have been selected for the Bay of Plenty team challenge for the Hawke Cup in Hamilton.

The Eastern Bay side showed their fighting qualities last week against Tauranga Boys College.

Needing 26 runs from just 3 over to win, the Eastern Bay team got home with a ball to spare.

The current season has brought a real renaissance to the Te Puke representatives.

No Bay of Plenty club has annexed the Williams Cup, more than the 14 occasions, which Te Puke has won the long time Baywide trophy.

Last week, Te Puke downed defending Williams Cup titleholders Eves Realty Greerton in decisive fashion.

Led by a Mitch McCann century, the Te Puke side posted 245/6 and then bowled out the defending Williams Cup champions for 153, to claim a comfortable victory.

However, while Te Puke will be heavily favoured to prevail against BOP Indians in Rotorua, the home side has several extremely talented players in their ranks.

Prashant and Jayanth Dhanjee have earned selection in the Bay of Plenty Development team, who will play two games over the long weekend and both could trouble the visitors to Smallbone Park.

Greerton will be looking to rebound from last weekend's loss and could have a real battle on their hands, when Tauranga Boys College visit Pemberton Park – while Mount Maunganui will be favoured to defeat Rotorua Central at Blake Park.
